AirTran Airways Unaccompanied Minor Fees:
Unaccompanied minors will be charged a fee of $49 one-way on nonstop and direct flights or $98 roundtrip.
When an unaccompanied minor’s itinerary involves a connecting flight, a fee of $69 one-way or $138 roundtrip will be charged.
If 2 or more children are traveling together, only 1 charge is applicable.
AirTran defines an unaccompanied minor as a child at least 5 years of age but less than 12 years of age who is not accompanied by a customer 12 years of age or older.
A child 12 to 15 years of age is not required to travel as an unaccompanied minor. However, AirTran will accept children in this age category as unaccompanied minors upon request.
Alaska Airlines / Horizon Air
Alaska Airlines Unaccompanied Minor Fees:
For children ages 5 to 7, a $25 USD/CAD fee applies each way per child on non-stop/direct flights
For children ages 8 to 12, a $25 USD/CAD fee applies each way per child for non-stop/direct flights; or a $50 USD/CAD fee applies each way per child for connecting flights.
For children ages 13 to 17, the unaccompanied minor service is optional, and a $25 USD/CAD fee applies each way per child for non-stop/direct flights; or a $50 USD/CAD fee applies each way per child for connecting flights, if the service is requested.
American Airlines Unaccompanied Minor Fees:
For ages 5 through 14, the fee is $100 USD each way to and from all locations.
Ages 15 through 17 are optional.
The charge will be assessed for each individual unaccompanied minor.
2 or more unaccompanied children from the same family (immediate or extended), traveling on the same flights, will be assessed a single charge.
Continental Airlines Unaccompanied Minor Fees:
There is a $100 service fee required for all unaccompanied children traveling alone on all flights to any destination.
Continental designates children 5 to 11 years of age as unaccompanied minors when traveling without their parent or guardian over the age of 18 in the same cabin.
Unaccompanied minors ages 5 to 7 may only travel on nonstop flights.
Unaccompanied minors ages 8 to 11 may travel on any flight (nonstop or connecting) operated by Continental, Continental Micronesia, Continental Express, or Continental Connection.
Children ages 12 to 17 have the option to pay the fee and use the unaccompanied minor service, or they may travel as adults with no unaccompanied minor service provided.
Delta Airlines Unaccompanied Minor Fees:
There is a $100 USD/CAD/EUR fee for all nonstop or connecting flights.
The unaccompanied minor service charge applies to each child using the service with 1 exception: when 2 or more unaccompanied minors from the same immediate family are traveling together, they pay only 1 charge.
The unaccompanied service is required for all children ages 5 to 14 years old when not traveling in the same compartment with an adult at least 18 years old or the child’s parent/legal guardian.
Children ages 5 to 7 years can only fly on nonstop or direct flights with no change of planes.
Children ages 8 to 14 years can fly on nonstop or connecting flights, but may not connect to other airlines, with the exception of KLM and Air France.
Children ages 15 to 17 are not required to have unaccompanied service, but it will be provided when requested.
Frontier Airlines Unaccompanied Minor Fees:
For direct and nonstop flights, the fee is $50.
For connecting flights, the fee is $100.
Children from ages 5 to 14 are considered unaccompanied minors when traveling without a companion of at least 15 years of age.
They’ll transfer an unaccompanied minor ages 5 to 14 to another carrier only when it is a flight operated by Great Lakes, Midwest, or Frontier.
Unaccompanied minors may travel on any flight when not connecting.
Frontier accepts unaccompanied children on connecting flights when:
There are multiple connecting-flight options in the stop-over city (even if it is the last flight of the day at the origin city); or it is the only flight of the day at the origin station.
Unaccompanied minors are not accepted on flights to/from San Jose, Costa Rica.
Children traveling unaccompanied pay a full adult fare.
A single fee is assessed for multiple children in 1 reservation to cover extra handling and free DIRECTV.
The fee is waived if the child is a Summit or Ascent EarlyReturns member.
Hawaiian Airlines Unaccompanied Minor Fees:
Fees vary by age group, but they are generally $35 for flights within the state of Hawaii and $100 for flights between the Continental U.S. and Hawaii.
The Hawaiian Airlines unaccompanied minor service is mandatory for children ages 5 to 11 for interisland flights and 5 to 14 for domestic U.S. flights, and optional for children ages 15 to 17 for all flights.
JetBlue Airways Unaccompanied Minor Fees:
There is an $85 fee each way for each unaccompanied minor traveling on JetBlue.
An unaccompanied minor is a child between the ages of 5 and under 14 years traveling without an adult.
Once children reach their 14th birthday, they are no longer considered unaccompanied minors if they are traveling alone. However, customers may request additional assistance under these circumstances by calling JetBlue.
Southwest Airlines Unaccompanied Minor Fees:
Children ages 5 to 11 must travel as an Unaccompanied Minor (UM) for a one-way service charge of $50 per child.
Children ages 5 through 11 traveling without an accompanying passenger age 12 or older must travel as Unaccompanied Minors (UMs) on Southwest Airlines.
Spirit Airlines Unaccompanied Minor Fees:
$100 per child, each way – includes a free snack and drink.
Children 5 to 14 years old must travel as an Unaccompanied Minor when not traveling with an adult at least 15 years old.
Unaccompanied Minors are accepted only on nonstop or direct flights that do not require a change of aircraft or flight number.
Customers 15 years old and older are not required to have unaccompanied service, but the Unaccompanied Minor fee will be collected if the service is requested.
United Airlines Unaccompanied Minor Fees:
The fee for unaccompanied minor service is $99 USD each way (except to or from Brazil, where no fee applies).
2 or more children who are traveling together will be assessed a single fee in each direction.
The service is mandatory for unaccompanied children 5 to 11 years old, and optional for those 12 to 17 years old.
US Airways Unaccompanied Minor Fees:
Children ages 5 to 14 may travel unaccompanied on nonstop flights for an additional $100 fee each way. US Airways assistance is required.
Children ages 15 to 17 may travel unaccompanied on nonstop and connecting flights without US Airways assistance.
Children ages 15 to 17 who require US Airways assistance may travel unaccompanied on nonstop flights only. There is an additional $100 fee each way.
The first and second checked bag fees will be waived when a child is traveling as an unaccompanied minor and has paid for US Airways assistance. If three or more bags are checked, the excess baggage fees will apply. Children age 15 to 17 who travel unaccompanied without purchasing US Airways assistance will be responsible for all baggage fees.
Virgin America Unaccompanied Minor Fees:
There is a $75 per child, per direction charge.
Children ages 5 to 14 may travel unaccompanied on nonstop flights only. Virgin America assistance is required.
Young adults 15 through 17 are considered adults unless the parents or guardians wish unaccompanied minor services to be provided by Virgin America.
