How to Build an Affiliate Marketing Blog

The following is a guide on how to build an affiliate marketing blog.

Affiliate marketing is a method of promoting products on your website or blog that allows you to receive a commission from advertisers for the customer referrals you provide.

An affiliate marketing website can be used to promote a wide range of affiliate advertising products while earning commissions when customers make purchases through your referral links.

Although there are many methods for building an affiliate marketing website or advertising blog, the method outlined here uses the WordPress content management system and GoDaddy WordPress Hosting Accounts that automatically integrate WordPress blogs with GoDaddy hosting.

This method is not necessarily better than other options for hosting WordPress blogs, and there are other blogging platforms available, but this is a pretty simple process for beginners and allows for further expansion at a later time as you learn more about managing websites.

Choose a Website Theme or Main Advertising Category

In order to optimize keywords and reach a focused audience for the products you plan to market, you’ll want to select 1 general theme or niche for your blog.

For instance, you may want to Start a Blog about Credit Cards, cameras, or computer software, or whatever topic you are passionate about that will drive you to work tirelessly on your blog, besides money of course.

Choosing a focused topic for your website will ensure that your visitors have a common interest in the affiliate products you advertise on your website, and it will also lend to better search engine optimization, as you will have common keywords throughout your blog.

If your main focus is promoting products that will maximize your profit, then you’ll also want to consider the Most Profitable Affiliate Marketing Programs and choose a related topic for your website.

However, remember that you must have something to offer your readers if you expect your website to be successful, which means it’s important to select a topic that you are passionate about, so that you are willing to put in the work to provide useful information to your readers.

Choosing an Affiliate Marketing Blog Name

Once you have selected your affiliate website theme, you’ll want to select a domain name that is associated with common keywords that are used when searching for your subject matter.

For instance, if you create a website about shoes, you will want to select a website name or domain name such as or

Using highly-searched terms in your domain name will help increase your search engine presence and lead to more website visitors clicking on your affiliate links.

Unfortunately, most of the really good keyword domain names are taken, so you’ll probably have to settle for a string of words that include some of the most searched terms, such as

The Google Keyword Tool is a good place to get ideas for highly searched keywords, as it gives you relevant search statistics for related keywords.

Since most of the really good keyword-focused domain names are taken, a good trick is to look for keywords that have less advertiser competition, so that you can focus on maximizing your exposure through less popular but still highly searched keywords.

You can also choose to select a more brand-friendly website name or marketing-oriented name that is easier for users to remember and more catchy to the ear, but such names will not necessarily help with your search engine optimization.

Purchase Your Website URL

Once you have selected a domain name that you want to use, you can Purchase Your Domain Name at, but you’ll have to check if your domain name is available first.

You’ll most likely have to go back and forth between searching for keyword rich domain names and checking to see what’s available to be purchased until you find an available domain name.

Just don’t mistake a blog with an actuall WordPress Blog that you add from your domain host. is also free, but doesn’t allow affiliate marketing. That being said – I LOVE the WordPress Blogs that I set up on my domain – they’re easy to use and set up.

I appreciate this article. You have mentioned some good fundamentals. Blogging about affiliate marketing programs is a tough market to start off with as it has been around a while and is pretty thoroughly covered. WordPress is a great platform and is easy to learn and optimize with all the many plugin’s available. Godaddy on the other hand frustrates the heck out of me with their proprietary interface. I have found that most of the tutorials out there are written for “Cpanel” and godaddy makes it very difficult to manage without hours of study to find the right screens.
    Thanks for the article.

    Hello Michael Brown,

Thank you very much for your comments.

Affiliate marketing is definitely not an easy business.

It takes a lot of work and can be a full-time job, so it’s not for those who are looking to get rich quick off the Internet, but if there is something that’s good for that, I’d love to hear about it.

I actually find GoDaddy hosting to be quite simple to use and manage, and once you’ve set up your WordPress blog with GoDaddy hosting, there’s really not too much need to access the GoDaddy interface that often, as it pretty much runs itself.

You don’t necessarily have to access GoDaddy to FTP, and beyond that, unless you’re really doing some technical stuff in the background, you don’t need to access your hosting provider that often at all.

To each his own though. GoDaddy hosting may not be for everyone, and there are plenty of other options out there.

Network Solutions also has a similar solution for easily hosting a WordPress blog, as do other web hosting providers.

Thanks again for your comments. Max

Thanks for your insight on affiliate marketing. I have a few tips of my own to offer. First, realize this is not an overnight business. It might take a few months after you start for the real income to start flowing in, especially when using whitehat methods such as SEO to bring in traffic. Second, resist the urge to promote every single cool looking offer or brand new product you find. It is better to focus on one product or service at a time, researching and finding everything you can about thet product or service, and throwing everything you can at the promotion of that product. Once promotion of a particular product or service is bringing in steady income for you, then you can consider promoting another product. Third, it is very important that you research and create a business plan before you start, and then always stick with that plan while you work. Affiliate marketing takes work, but if done correctly, everyone can make some money.
