what ARE signature-based purchases?
Hello Ed,
Signature-based purchases are any purchases with your ING debit card that do not require a PIN (Personal Identification Number) to complete the purchase.
This includes debit card purchases at check-out counters where you choose credit instead of debit, for which you then provide a signature.
It also includes telephone orders, Internet orders, and mail order purchases where you do not use your PIN and choose credit instead of debit as well.
You can also qualify for signature-based purchases with automatic payments such as utilities and regularly occurring bills where you pay for them using your card (again, if the option is offered, you must choose credit for your card payment instead of debit).
Basically, as long as you choose credit when paying with your ING debit card and don’t use your PIN, it will count as a signature-based purchase, and when done in person, you should also be required to sign the receipt.
Hope this helps. Thank you for commenting. Max
