Get the AMEX EveryDay Credit Cards to earn up to 15,000 bonus points and up to 50% more points on purchases.
AMEX EveryDay Credit Card 10,000 Bonus Points
The AMEX EveryDay Credit Card with no annual fee offers 10,000 Membership Rewards points and 1 year of Amazon Prime membership after $1,000 in purchases within 3 months.
You can then redeem your 10,000 points for $100 worth of gift cards or other rewards such as travel and merchandise.
This card version provides 2 points per $1 at U.S. supermarkets on up to $6,000 in purchases per year, and 1 point per $1 thereafter.
You’ll also earn 1 point per $1 on all of your other purchases.
Then, if you use your card 20 or more times on purchases within a billing period, you’ll get 20% more points on those purchases.
Those 20% extra bonus points are really the main benefit of this card over the Blue Cash Everyday Card, which otherwise offers higher cash back earnings in select categories.
You’ll also get a 0% introductory APR on purchases and balance transfers for 15 months.
AMEX EveryDay Preferred Credit Card 15,000 Bonus Points
The AMEX EveryDay Preferred Credit Card with a $95 annual fee offers 15,000 Membership Rewards points and 1 year of Amazon Prime membership after $1,000 in purchases within 3 months.
You can redeem the 15,000 points for $150 worth of gift cards and other rewards like travel, statement credits, and merchandise.
This card version provides 3 points per $1 at U.S. supermarkets on up to $6,000 in purchases per year, and 1 point per $1 thereafter.
You’ll also earn 2 points per $1 at U.S. gas stations and 1 point per $1 spent everywhere else.
Then, if you use your card 30 or more times on purchases within a billing period, you’ll get 50% more points on those purchases.
The 50% extra bonus points are a significant increase, but since the Blue Cash Preferred Card already offers 6% cash back at supermarkets on up to $6,000 in purchases per year, the 50% bonus for the EveryDay Preferred card really only makes sense if you make 30 or more purchases within a given billing period.
Otherwise, you might be better off with the Blue Cash Preferred card, where you don’t have to make a minimum amount of purchases to receive the bonus increase.
Of course, the 50% bonus is based on all of your purchases, so it really depends on how much you spend and where you spend it as far as which card will reward you more in the end.
The EveryDay Preferred card also provides a 0% intro APR on purchases and balance transfers for 15 months.
Overall, it’s a little confusing why American Express would introduce new cards with benefits that are so similar to some of their existing cards, and it may be that they plan to remove the Blue Cash Everyday and Blue Cash Preferred cards in the future.
As a consumer, I would probably rather receive the higher cash rebate rates up front without having to worry about meeting the minimum purchase requirements each billing period to get the extra bonus points, but if you regularly make a lot of purchases either way, then these new cards may work out better for you.
On the other hand, these cards provide an opportunity to earn more bonus Membership Rewards points for new card members, which may be important with American Express potentially no longer allowing their cards to be churned, although the bonus isn’t necessarily significant based on other American Express offers that are available.
If you don’t have the Blue Cash cards already, then you may want to consider these new AMEX EveryDay cards to earn cash rebates at U.S. supermarkets and/or U.S. gas stations as well as bonus points based on the number of your monthly purchases.
