Just an update:
I was able to register a Starbucks Card eGift for the My Starbucks Rewards program and qualify for the $5 promotion.
I had received a $2.60 Starbucks eGift Card with another promotion for a free tall Blonde roast or Vanilla Blonde brewed coffee a little while ago.
I registered this eGift Card for the $5 My Starbucks Rewards registration promotion, and it worked without a problem.

I guess the only problem is that my rewards card going forward is a printed eGift Card on a piece of paper that I have, so it won’t be as durable as a plastic gift card.
I’m not too familiar with the My Starbucks Rewards program, but maybe I can transfer my account to be associated with a different Starbucks Card in the future.
Anyway, this is an easy promo to get for some free coffee.

Another update:
I just checked My Starbucks Rewards balance, and the $5 bonus has already been added to my account, so it was pretty much instant and I didn’t have to wait 24 hours.
It also looks like you can easily register different cards and transfer balances between cards for the My Starbucks Rewards program as well.
I even saw some people reporting that they were earning multiple $5 bonuses for this offer by registering multiple Starbucks Cards with the My Starbucks Rewards program and using different email addresses/registration info.
