How To Refer New American Express Card Members
1. Visit the American Express Referral Program and log in to your American Express card account in order to see the bonuses that you and your friends will earn.
2. Once you log in, you’ll see which of your American Express cards are available for the referral program.
3. Select the card that you would like to refer and send a referral via email, social media, or your unique referral link.
4. When your referrals apply and are approved for any personal or business card through your referral link, you will earn a referral bonus.
5. The referral bonus will be credited to your account within 8 to 12 weeks of your referral’s account approval date.
Your friend will be able to choose from all available American Express Personal and Business Card offers. You can receive your referral bonus no matter what card your friend is approved for.
American Express Card Referral Program Details
Terms for Referrer:
The referral offers are available online only to Basic Card Members.
You must allow 6 to 8 weeks for the referral bonus to post to your account after each referred individual is approved for the card.
You cannot earn a referral bonus for those who currently have the card you recommended or for individuals who have been referred by someone else.
The individuals you refer may not receive the referral email if they have previously “opted out” of receiving email marketing communications from American Express.
In order to receive the referral bonus, your account must be active and in good standing at the time of fulfillment.
The value of the referral bonus may be taxable income to you, and you are responsible for any federal or state taxes resulting from the referral bonus.
Terms for Referee:
For new card members who are referred, you may not be eligible for the welcome bonus offer if you are identified as a current American Express card member.
The referral bonus offers are also not available to applicants who have had the same product within the last 12 months or any other consumer ZYNC, Green or Gold Card, or Platinum Card account within the last 90 days (if you are being referred to select consumer cards like the Premier Rewards Gold Card).
I would guess that these referral bonus offers aren’t available to new applicants if you’ve ever had the same card previously, just like the other American Express offers are only available 1 time per life now, but the referral program terms may not have been fully updated at this point.
Examples of American Express Card Referrals
American Express Gold Card
If you have the American Express Gold Card, you can earn 10,000 Membership Rewards points for each approved referral for up to 55,000 points per calendar year.
Your referrals will earn 40,000 points after $4,000 in purchases within 3 months.
Clear from American Express
If you have the Clear from American Express credit card, you can earn $100 bonus cash for each approved referral for up to $550 per calendar year.
However, your referrals will not earn a welcome bonus when signing up for Clear from American Express.
