Referral Program Terms

In order for both parties (the referred friend and the referring Chime member) to qualify for and receive the $100 referral reward, the following conditions must be met:

  • The referred friend must open a new Chime Spending Account using the referring Chime member’s unique referral link, and receive a payroll direct deposit of $200 or more within 45 days from when the Chime Spending Account was opened.
  • The payroll direct deposit must be made by an employer or payroll provider by an ACH deposit. Bank ACH transfer, Pay Friends transfers, verification or trial deposits from financial institutions, transfers from PayPal or Venmo, and cash loads do not qualify as a payroll direct deposit.
  • The referred friend must activate their physical Chime Visa Debit Card within 14 days of receiving a qualifying direct deposit.
  • Referring Chime member must be part of the $100 for $100 referral reward campaign in order for both parties to be eligible for the $100 referral reward.
  • The referral reward is paid to both parties within 2 business days after qualifying funds are first deposited into the referred friend’s Spending Account.
  • Eligible referring Chime members can earn no more than $1,000 in referral rewards per calendar year (January 1 – December 31).

Chime Spending Account with Debit Card

When you open a Chime account online, you’ll get a Spending Account with the Chime Visa Debit Card.

        Bank-to-bank transfer… is the same as an external transfer, or ACH transfer. Each bank calls it something different. It’s when you setup the transfer at another bank using your Chime ACH routing number and account number, and “push” the money to Chime.

        Chime says it’s not accepted, but I received my bonus after transferring from Varo Bank. Never set up direct deposit of my actual paycheck. Looks like most people are able to get the bonus that way as well. Worth a try!

    I have had this account for a long time and have had no issues using it.       No. You have to deposit $200. Some say that if you link certain banks and deposit money from them that it is the same as direct deposit. They want a direct deposit essentially.

    I used a friends referral link to enroll, I received a direct deposit that was well over the $200 minimum exactly 45 days after opening the account. when I spoke to customer service about the $50 reward for my friend and I , I was told I didn’t qualify because I didn’t use the link, then I was told my deposit was made 47 days after opening the account. Neither of which was true.

    As requested from chime support I emailed chime and included a screenshot of the link my friend sent. Several days later I received a response stating that after looking into the matter the reason I didn’t get the referral bonus was because my friend already had an account with Chime. This is correct my friend was the one who referred me, of course he already had an account!. Like the previous reasons given as to why I didn’t receive the bonus it was not valid. Customer service is a joke I was lied to as well as called a liar. I wanted to like Chime but feel Chime is lacking in integrity and business ethics.

    Yes, sort of. It’s more of a P2P payment app with a touch of prepaid card, similar to Paypal, but better in a couple ways. You can ACH in, and out to your other banks. You can send money to friends or pay bills. You can mail a check to people or businesses to pay bills. You get a Visa Debit card with your name, without a chip so not sure what the upgrade plan is on that, or maybe I didn’t get one because I never use the card. Not sure what else it does or doesn’t do well, because honestly, I hardly use it. But, they haven’t kicked me out so I like it.

      Banks and bank products like this often have those terms saying govt benefit or payroll only, but those parameters usually aren’t well enforced. Bonuses are typically paid out automatically and the systems used typically see ACH as DD. I included data points of a list of banks on this page that have worked in the past for people.
