Although the Zipcar Referral Program is displayed on the Zipcar.com homepage, further information about the referral program is unavailable without a member account (which I’m unable to attain), so these details are pieced together from various resources around the Internet.
Current Zipcar members supposedly have 3 referral options:
1. To split the referral bonus $25/$25 with the new member.
2. To keep the entire $50 referral bonus and offer $0 to the new member.
3. To keep $0 from the referral bonus and offer $50 to the new member.
Referral credits do have an expiration date, so you must use them rather quickly, as they typically expire 30 days from the date of membership approval.
Only 1 referral credit may be applied to a referring member’s account for each referred member who executes a member contract and starts a non-trial offer rate plan under a non-sponsored/non-discounted account.
Referral credits cannot be applied to sponsored/discounted account applications.

We contacted Zipcar customer service, and they confirmed that there is an expiration date:
“Referral credits do have an expiration date on them, typically 30 days from the date of membership approval.”

Just wanted to let you know that you are incorrect about the expiration of referral credits. If you read the terms and conditions, you will see that Zipcar clearly states that referral credits expire 30 days from the date of the award.

Zipcar sucks. I referred over 100 people and they took away all my credits saying that I could only refer people I knew personally. Then they charged me around $300 for a 1 day rental because apparently if you drive a certain mileage you pay per mile afterwards (although it doesn’t say that anywhere except the terms and conditions, and who really reads those). I’ll never use their service again
