PNC Bank has a checking account promotional offer that provides a $50, $200, or $400 bonus with PNC Virtual Wallet accounts.

This $50/$200/$400 offer is only available to residents of AL, DC, DE, FL, GA, IL, IN, KY, MD, MI, MO, NC, NJ, NY, OH, PA, SC, VA, WI and WV.

You may also be interested in these new consumer account promotions from Chase Bank as well, or check out this PNC Business Checking Promotion if you need to open a business account.

Special Notes from PNC Representative via Chat

“The minimum opening deposit is $25.

We accept Visa, MasterCard or another bank account number to apply online.

Also, you may open the account at the branch with cash or a check, so if that works out better, please bring your driver’s license or state-issued ID as well.

We do run the account through Chex Systems as part of the approval process, which is more of a soft credit inquiry.

The Chex Systems, Inc. network is comprised of member Financial Institutions that regularly contribute information on mishandled checking and savings accounts to a central location.

Chex Systems shares this information among member institutions to help them assess the risk of opening new accounts.”

PNC Bank $50, $200 or $400 Checking Account Bonus

With this PNC Bank Bonus Offer, you can earn up to $400 when you open a new PNC Virtual Wallet and establish a qualifying direct deposit.

  • Virtual Wallet – $50 bonus with a direct deposit of $500.
  • Virtual Wallet with Performance Spend – $200 bonus with a direct deposit of $2,000.
  • Virtual Wallet with Performance Select – $400 bonus with a direct deposit of $5,000.

Just open a PNC checking account with a qualifying direct deposit to receive a banking bonus from $50 to $400, depending on the amount of your direct deposit.

PNC Bank Checking Promotional Details

To qualify for the initial reward, you must meet the following requirements:

1. A new personal checking account must be opened online via the above promotional link or at a branch using the coupon code that you receive via email upon request.

2. Qualifying direct deposits must be received within 60 days ($500 to earn $50, $2,000 to earn $200, or $5,000 to earn $400).

Your checking account must remain open in order for you to receive the initial bonus reward, which will be credited to the eligible account within 60 days after all conditions have been met.

A qualifying direct deposit is defined as a recurring direct deposit of a paycheck, pension, Social Security, or other regular monthly income electronically deposited by an employer or an outside agency into a Performance or Performance Select Checking Account, or the Spend Account of a Virtual Wallet with Performance Spend.

The total amount of all qualifying direct deposits credited to your checking account must be at least $500, $2,000, or $5,000, depending on which bonus amount you want to qualify to receive.

Credit card cash advance transfers, transfers from one account to another, or deposits made at a branch or ATM do not qualify as qualifying direct deposits.

Eligibility for Promotion

This offer is only available to new PNC Bank checking account customers who open an eligible account using the online application.

Your new account will not be eligible for the offer if any signer has signing authority on an existing PNC Bank consumer checking account, has closed an account within the past 90 days, or has been paid a promotional premium in the past 12 months.

If multiple accounts are opened with the same signers, only 1 account will be eligible for the premium.

Take advantage of this PNC Bank bonus to earn up to a $400 cash reward with a new PNC personal checking account.

Here is a tip THAT APPLIES TO ANY OF THESE PROMOTIONS, BUT especially WITH PNC – PRINT OUT EVERYTHING. OR AT LEAST TAKE A SCREEN SHOT. I DEAL WITH MANY BANKS, AND PNC IS BY FAR THE WORST WHEN IT COMES TO NOT UNDERSTANDING THEIR OWN FINE PRINT. AS FOR THE D/D BEING CUMULATIVE OR NOT, I HAVE BEEN TOLD DIFFERENT THINGS BY DIFFERENT BRANCHES. I AM IN MD. HOPE THIS HELPS SOMEONE.

I WANTED TO OPEN THE ACCOUNT THAT QUALIFIES FOR THE $300. PNC OPENED THE WRONG TYPE OF ACCOUNT, FILLED OUT THE DD FORM INCORRECTLY SO IT CAME BACK TO ME TO FILL OUT AGAIN.I spent $50 for overnight mailings to my DD institution so as to get the DD’s within 60 days, and they still screwed it up.I MET THE ON-LINE ‘BILL-PAY REQUIREMENT.SO, I went to the branch to try to get an extension for the DD time limit and thats when they told me the wrong account had been opened.I call the 800#, as I opened the account specifically for the $300, they tell me they will call me with 48 hours,WHAT ?
I also tried to pay some bills, 2 out of 3 were sent out correctly, none have been confirmed as ‘PAID’ YET but its only a few days so…..One was marked as ‘scheduled’ and now has been removed.I will most likely end up closing this account and not get the bonus, this bank is almost as bad as the bank I left to open this account. The problem is that it took 15 years for me to get sick of the bank I left, it has taken less than 3 months to be sick of PNC.
GOOD LUCK getting the bonus, you will need it.

    Hi,
I have an important info to share about this.

I visited a PNC branch recently and enquired about this promotion (i had received the coupon in an email). While they will give the promo money for opening the account- they will also deduct High fees throughout! For example, opening the virtual wallet with performance spend comes with strict conditions– you must get $2000 per month in direct deposit (not within 60 days as advertised for coupon). If you get less than $2000 in direct deposit- they will charge you $25 per month. So the bonus will give you $200- but in 3 months time they will charge you $75 just to “maintain the account.” In a years time, the lower direct deposit means you will pay them $300 in fees!! Thats not a bank bonus thats worth at all!

Quick update. I opened my account on 10/01/15. Received my $200 bonus on 11/03/15. I split my direct deposit from work into 2 halves – $1000 + $1000 = $2,000. I also did 1 bill pay. I opened a PNC Virtual Wallet with Performance Spend account (the one that will not charge you a monthly fee if you keep $2,000 combined average monthly balance). If you follow my steps, you will receive your bonus, too. Just make sure your direct deposit is from your work and not an ACH from another bank.

At least one signer on the new checking account must have a pre-existing consumer banking relationship other than a checking account with PNC. Such a relationship exists when the customer is a signer on any open and active PNC Savings or Money Market account, certificate of deposit, investment account OR any consumer loan, line of credit, credit card or mortgage.

Most of the people don’t make $2,000 or $5,000 in direct deposits at work after taxes. Can an ACH transfer from another bank qualify as “regular monthly income electronically deposited by an employer or an outside agency?”

I closed my checking account on June 4. When should I open the new account to be eligible for $400 reward?
Also what is the main difference between Performance Select and Virtual Wallet? I don’t want a saving account. (Cannot earn interest for religious reasons) Do they open saving account along with Performance Select?

Thanks for the OP. I made more than a grand thanks to you.

      Hello Paula,

Thank you for letting me know. PNC Bank has pretty much extended this same promotion every time it expired for the last several years, except it has been for up to $400 at times. I’ve updated the date in the article, and I appreciate you letting me know.

Does anyone know if the $2000 direct deposit is accumulative or a one time direct deposit?

Ex. Can I have 1000 from this paycheck and 1000 from next paycheck?

Yes, as long as the two (or three or ten) direct deposits are completed within the same calendar month.

    Re: PNC Promotion ($100, 200, or $300)

I opened my account on August 26 in person with cash.
I than went home and used my Pal Pal Account to make an additional deposit to qualify for the $300 bonus, which required a total of $5000 via direct deposit to qualify. I also paid a cell phone monthly bill using their online bill pay.
All bonus requirements were completed within 2 weeks. (I had to transfer some money from my ‘real’ bank to Pay Pal so I could “Direct Deposit” to PNC. That is why it took almost two weeks.

Today I received my $300 bonus, and my “obligations” for this bonus offer to PNC are completed. There is another $100 bonus available, IF I have $20K in my account before Oct 26, and it remains for 90 days. I don’t think that’s going to happen. LOL

    Summary:
1: PNC paid me my $300 bonus in 37-38 days from when I opened the account.
2: Pay Pal (worked for me) to qualify the (ACH) Direct Deposit requirement. Because I “knew” Pay Pal would “work”, I was able to earn a much higher tier bonus than my meager social security check would have provided.
3: I have no further obligation to PNC to keep the account open, etc. I will, for now, until I find another bonus offer worth the effort.

2014 current total: $725.00. And two coffee mugs, And assorted other swag. :)

After Chase & Capital One, PNC takes place # 3 in my personal list of worst banks ever: constantly freezing my access to funds for no reason and avoiding fulfilling any promos. Pathetic!

    Hello H.T.,

PNC updates their promotional pages as they expire, so the old promo page for that offer would no longer be available online as a live page.

Unfortunately, we do not have a PDF copy of the promo page or otherwise, so if you need the page for proof of some sort, we would not be able to provide that to you.

The link in the above article leads to the newest promotion available.

    Best of luck, Max

With this offer you must stay consistently on to them for the reason they don’t want to give you the $100 promo reward.
