I have a few extra pounds from the quarantine I want to burn off, but just kinda lacked motivation. That led me to HealthyWage, which is basically a website that lets you “bet” on your own weight loss targets, rewarding you for succeeding at said targets…and punishing you for not doing so.

The way this website works is, you place a bet (at least $100) that you can lose at least a certain amount of weight (at least 10% of your total body weight) within a given time frame (at least 6 months), and if you are successful, you will get rewarded with your initial investment + a bonus (they offered me around a 10% bonus). You can pay out the whole bet at once or split over the time frame of the bet.

I was initially concerned that this might be a big scam or something, but it seems pretty legit given that it’s got solid reviews on the app store and has articles about it on NPR, sitejabber, etc.

Personally, I just signed up tonight, and placed a $3000 bet that I can lose 30 pounds within 6 months.
