The online application is bullshit, it won’t let you deposit 1500 from a separate checking account, just so you can go one day without a minimum balance of $1500 and they can charge the service fee for the first month. I just opened an account in Chase and used a mail offer of 200$. There is a trick that Chase or their lazy reps would do to decline the offer. I was told that my name is on a ChexSystems,Inc list (consumer reporting agency), as if I have some kind of delinquency in payments or debt, and Chase cannot open an account on my name. The rep printed a Notice of Action. I thought: was it a 20$ I owe to my dentist, or a trick. I looked at the Notice of Action, and asked to print some more information of the delinquent person (SSN or the address at least to be sure it is me, there was only a name in the notice). After that, the rep said he cannot really print any other information, and after that: he could actually bypass the Notice he got before -”it must have been a computer glitch” (????!!!), and finally open an account. I am going to complain to Chase management.

FYI – each code can only be used once – so if you are posting it online you have no way of knowing if it will work till you get to the bank and open your account, heck of a time to realize it has already been used. Chase mails out offers all the time and if you are a cardholder you can call cardservices and see what they may have to offer.
If you bank elsewhere and put your debit card in a Chase ATM – most times you will get a code printed on your receipt, worth the $2-$5 fee both banks will charge. Then that code is yours and no one else can use it.
