I need to open an account with a bank that has a BIC code to accept international transfers. I see that M&T has three different BIC codes. Which one will work if I open a checking account in Maryland? This is time sensitive; please reply.

If it is a direct deposit from an international transfer (which is how I get paid for my business) does it qualify for the bonus?

    Thank you

How long after receiving your $150 bonus with M&T before you can close that account? I’m waiting for my son to receive the bonus for his account and then we are closing all of our M&T accounts. This bank is terrible. They sent me a new bank card with a security chip and a week later someone stole my card # and went shopping. Had to wait a week for a new card and they sent me the wrong type of card. They even admitted to it being their fault. Now I have to wait 15 days to get a new card due to security reasons and they won’t overnight me a new card at their cost. I have to pay for overnight fees. DONE WITH M&T. How long after receiving the bonus do I have to wait before closing the account?

I live in Maryland – and this promotion is being heavily advertised here – well, I opened my M&T “My Choice Checking” account at a local branch, initial deposit of $100. cash, and had the customer service banker enter the “QM” code referred to above. He did, and said that it was probably valid since he received no error message about it. I opened the account on August 7, 2015, and set up my direct deposit. The first direct deposit ($100) hit my account on September 3, and the same day, there was also the “$200. Direct Deposit Cash Bonus” credited to my account. As a side note, of all the banks I deal with, (and there are many!), M&T is one of the few I have never had any problems with whatsoever. So far, that is. Thank you Max, you are the man.

Well I open an account under these rules and did it at a branch of M&T 4 miles from me. My first DD went in this month. I will keep checking for my bonus of 150.00. Opened the account in late March so expect bonus in June. We will see.

I go after a lot of these bank bonus, and M&T is the absolute worst. I closed my account before transfering funds because I don’t trust them with a penny.

They told me my state doesn’t qualify. I live in UT. I sent them an email prior to opening account. So not all states in the list qualify.

My state has no branches, but received the bonus several days after doing the DD.

Just wanted to add that I did not receive the flyer, live in Oregon and I was able to get the bonus offer. It posted the day after my direct deposit hit.
Thanks for helping me find some more free money Max!

I just chatted with a rep and she said the offer is only for people who received the flyer.

Hey Max, I was wondering if this promotion works for Oregon residents?

      Hello D.D. Baller,

According to the customer service representative that I chatted with, you should be able to open an account online if you live in any state.

Hope this helps and thanks for the comment. Max

        Hi Max,

After reading other banking blogs, many people mentioned that MT & T Bank will not honor the bonus if your zip code is not near one of their branches. I also spoke with an online representative and she told me Oregon does not qualify.

Interesting. Thanks for the feedback. I’ve updated the above article to reflect this information. I also updated the list of states where they have branches based on information take from their website. I appreciate your help.

I opened the account yesterday then called M&T to confirm I was enrolled under the $100 bonus promo. They advised that even though I lived in NC I was not eligible for it because it was limited to an undisclosed area. Nothing in the T&C’s say where the offer is limited to.

Dont do this bonus as it will probably not work and end up being more trouble than its worth. The rep also said that if you close an account within 180 days there is a $49 fee. No where did it say that… Awful customer service.

I opened the My Choice checking account mainly for the $100 cash bonus reward. Then I realized that there are several M&T banks in my area. I have one closer than my primary bank and close to my job. It says that the account will be credited with the $100 reward within 90 days, so I was pleasantly surprised when my first direct deposit posted and so did the reward! I procrastinated on getting my direct deposit changed but Im glad they give you 90 days. This was an easy process and I’m very satisfied with this account.
